The morning of April 3, all of my atomic clocks were off - some had gained 4 hours, while another had "lost" an hour. For everyone that is saying that their clock is one hour off here's why. The government recently changed the laws about daylight savings, but nobody's told the clocks yet. It'll go to the correct time on the day that DST used to be.

I can't take credit, but here is what fixed mine: I called Sharp Electronics (about the failure of the clock to detect the new 2007 daylight savings time), and it turns out Sharp Electronics is a different company then Sharp who sell/support the atomic clock. I got the number for this company and these are the instructions for updating the clock's time (should work in any time zone).

I thought my new Sharp analog clock was screwed, it appears that we are in the same boat, I contacted the manufacturer (MZ Berger) by email, I will post what they say, Nathan Daniel, push the small buttion above EST to cancel DST, and for the signal questions. it comes from WWV in Fort Collins, CO by shortwave radio on 5, 10, 15, and 20 mhz, the signal strenth relates to the sunspot cycle, we just went thought the weakest period for radio propagation, things will get better, maybe too good.

Can't find my manual. When I got the clock, I pushed something on the back of clock, per instructions, because we don't use daylight savings in Mesa, AZ. It worked beautifully. Then I had to change battery. I guess I needed to push something on the back of the clock again because my clock moved forward an hour and now it's the wrong time. Our LaCrosse radio controlled atomic wall clock in our home won't auto switch back to CST. Outside Temp was not working on SPC347T. Finally figured out (with help from this forum) remove batteries from both remote & base. Replace remote batteries first, then reset remote (with paper clip in hole above batteries). Note which channel is set. Next, replace batteries in base, Reset (with paper clip in hole beneath snooze button), if clock resets but outside temp still does not show, make sure channel indicator is same as remote. It works!

The clock is counting seconds and may not match up to the correct time at this point in time, but be aware that the clock will most likely temporarily go blank or shut down to set itself to the correct time. Finally I was able to sync my Sharp atomic wall clock to the DST. I removed the battery for a few seconds, placed the battery back, pressed the PST button, and just wait. The clock's hands moved to 12pm and in about 30m inutes later it was able to sync to the correct time. Before this procedure the clock was never able to move its time back by an hour for DST.

I pushed the "receive" button several times throughout the day before it actually changed. I found my instructions and it says the signal will be received at 2 am so maybe by morning the time will be OK.

I too have a Sharp/MZ Berger model SPC890 clock that this year changed DST times on the "old" dates. I've emailed Berger at customer-service@mzb.com to see what they say. My in-laws own the same model clock and theirs changed on the correct dates so far this year. We'll see what happens this Sunday, Nov 4!

Irrespective of the brand the mechanism in similar looking atomic clocks are same and therefore their setting instructions.

Problem: Sharp Atomic Analog Wall Clock won't reset to DST. Solution: Remove the battery, put the battery back in, hold down the black tab (to the left of the PT button) until the correct time is reading on the clock, release the black tab, you're done!

Just got off the phone with MZB support re: Sharp SPC-890. Solution is to remove the battery and reinsert w/o pushing any time zone buttons. Wait for the clock to stop at 12, 4, or 8 prior to receiving a signal, then immediately use the black tab to the left of the battery to set the time manually. Again, never push any other buttons. I was assured that the clock would still synchronize with the radio signal; I would try setting it off by 5 min and seeing if it corrects w/in 24 hrs.

I finally took the advice below to open up the clock (6 screws) and simply manually move the hour hand so that two of the 4 time zone buttons will cause it to display the correct time. I highly recommend this. Now I am no longer plagued by the wrong time. You don't really care if the "proper" button is pushed in the back. I'm all set. But it still is inexcusable so we all should continue to complain to the manufacturer.

Not sure if this is the Model # of my Sharp Atomic clock: IECLR6+. But I followed Greg's directions just below and it worked !! 1) Remove the battery; the clock starts running fast. 2) When it stops, gently push in that small black indent which is right next to the battery (You would never know this had any kind of function). 3) The time will again start running. 4) Immediately let go of this small indentation when the time is correct right to the minute. And Voila! Problem solved (at least for now).

OK, I followed Barbara's somewhat sketchy instructions but the thing she didn't say was that after you take the battery out and put it back in, you push the manual button, a a rectangular piece of black plastic on mine, and keep it held down until the time starts to change. Keep it down until you get to the time you want, then release it immediately. We will see if it changes back to the wrong time in 24 hours. Saved taking out 6 screws.

Sharp analog clock fix: The old fashioned way - Take out the six screws around the perimeter of the back. Pop off the glass. Push the hour hand one hour ahead. Put it back together. I tried this and the hour hand remains one hour ahead after resetting. I'll set it to central (I'm in eastern) when it finally corrects itself.

I think these clocks were preprogrammed and they are not ever going to receive the new signal. Will see what happens in April. My clcok is only 8-9 months old. After trying the suggestions below with my sharp analog yesterday unsuccessfully for ET, I took the battery out again, put it in, let the clock go to park on 4, 8 or 12, then without pressing any buttons for timezone, I pressed the button to the left of the battery, to set the time manually. once the hand for the seconds starts to run you can't set the time anymore, so pulse to the correct minutes at the end. since the clock doesn't know which timezone to set, it just keeps going. did it 24h ago.

She called Sharp Support - you are supposed to stick a pin in a little hole to reset, and then press EST and the DST button. My hope is that this disables the old table-driven DST change the clock does. I think the clock does that so it can properly set DST even if it didn't synch to the time standard. Well, this doesn't work if the DST date changes!

In general, radio controlled clocks have a loopstick antenna that is direction sensitive. These clocks works best when "facing" West, or 180 degrees opposite to East. Not so good South or North unless you're closer to Ft. Collins, Colorado.

What I don't understand is this, the clock doesn't start going until it receives signal, it waits at 4, 8 or 12. So when it gets signal why doesn't it set to new time? It's obviously not receiving the DST 'bit' of the data?

Well, after many resets, battery removed etc. and several times of trying, when clock actually receives signal it starts going and returns to original EST. Still unable to get it to change to DST. Not Impressed!

Barbara - I know that's what they said at MZ. The button I pressed has no label, I assumed it was a reset button. Maybe by removing the battery, that effectively resets the clock. You may want to contact MZ at the number below. Good luck!

Barbara - I would assume it should work for all time zones. I have 4 clocks, all of which ended the reset process an hour before EDT. I pressed CT to get the clocks on our time (which means all four clocks moved ahead 2 hours). I would assume had I pressed ET, that it would have worked accordingly. Sil - I placed my clocks in an eastern window of our faciltiy. I have no idea which direction is best....this is my first experience with these. :-)

Has anyone in EST area managed to get their Sharp analog clock to show DST? I appreciate that anyone in time zones further west can just press button to make their clock read the neighboring zone, but on the east coast this is obviously not possible as EST is the most 'forward' zone.

Sharp clock not updated for DST. Hit CT button on back and it started spinning and only stops at 12, 4, or 8. Called MZ Berger at 718-472-7500 as someone posted and they said take the battery out, replace with a new on, push CT button on back and then the DST (tiny button between CT and ET on the back). Then wait 2 hours for it to reset itself. I thought this was a bit much, but she was 100% sure this would take care of itself at that time. Waiting now....

That was weird I just called their support department its the MZ berger service center who uses sharp's brand. The clock is now showing DST being active in the corner and the proper time being displayed. BTW if anyone needs the number to get info on their Sharp branded clock its (718) 472-7546

Read the next to last paragraph from here... http://tf.nist.gov/timefreq/general/dst.htm According to this, the clock should have worked just fine as the radio signal includes info about when DST is in effect. So the clock should not need to know the rules, but rather trust what the radio signal is telling it.

I suspect that the Sharp clock is not looking for the DST info as provided, but rather is using the provided date info and using it's own formula to determine when DST is in effect. And of course, that formula is now wrong. Whoever (Sharp?) made this clock needs to fix this.

When on 24 hour time is used it is the only way to let someone know if it is AM or PM ..up to 12 noon it is AM and after that it is PM.Hence 1oclock PM is 1300 and 8 PM is shown as 2000 . I don't see any answers to my question either ???? I hope this answers your questiond about 24 hour time..

Sharp atomic clocks according to their instructions at least for model # spc373, The clock has been preprogrammed to automatically adjust for DST. DST will show during this time in the corner of the clock. I had to change time zones to get it to work and my DST icon is not being displayed.Looks like sharp really didn't take into account of a DST change. I bet it will change the DST change over. Going to try to call support on monday.
